Use an app password for Gmail
Connect Gmail or Google Workspace over SMTP and IMAP with a 16-character app password.
Create the app password
- Turn on 2-Step Verification for the Google account at https://myaccount.google.com/signinoptions/twosv.
- Open https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords.
- Type ZicReach as the app name and click Create.
- Copy the 16-character password Google shows. You will not see it again.
Connect the mailbox
- Open Email accounts, click Connect a mailbox and pick Google.
- Choose Use an app password. The server settings fill in: smtp.gmail.com, port 465, SSL, and imap.gmail.com, port 993.
- Enter your name and the email address, and paste the app password as the password.
- Click Connect and test.
If it does not work
- App passwords is missing: 2-Step Verification is off, or your Google Workspace administrator does not allow it for your account.
- Authentication failed: create a new app password and paste it again. Your normal Google password does not work here.
- Changing your Google password removes every app password. Create a new one and update the mailbox.
