Enable SMTP in Microsoft 365 or GoDaddy
Turn on Authenticated SMTP so a Microsoft 365 mailbox can send with its password.
Microsoft 365 admin center
- Open https://admin.microsoft.com/#/users and sign in as an administrator.
- Click the user whose mailbox you want to connect.
- Open the Mail tab and click Manage email apps.
- Tick Authenticated SMTP and click Save changes.
- If SMTP is still refused, open the Exchange admin center (https://admin.exchange.microsoft.com), then Settings, Mail flow, and untick Turn off SMTP AUTH protocol for your organization.
Microsoft 365 bought through GoDaddy
- Sign in to GoDaddy and open My Products, then Email and Office.
- Click Manage All and select the user.
- Open Advanced settings and turn on SMTP Authentication.
- Wait a few minutes before connecting.
Connect the mailbox
- Open Email accounts, click Connect a mailbox, pick Microsoft and choose Use SMTP.
- The server settings fill in: smtp.office365.com, port 587, TLS.
- Enter your name, the email address and the mailbox password, then click Connect and test.
Good to know
- If the account uses multi-factor sign-in or security defaults, Microsoft refuses passwords over SMTP. Use Sign in with Microsoft instead.
- Microsoft is retiring password sign-in for SMTP. Sign in with Microsoft keeps working after that.
- With SMTP, replies and warmup cannot be read with a password. Use Sign in with Microsoft for those.
